Welcome to the Global Populations team site!

The visualizations on this site were developed with the goal of allowing users to investigate global population trends, among countries of varying economic status, through a lens shaded by the COVID 19 pandemic. The intended audiences are government officials responsible for citizen welfare and organizations like the World Health Organization interested in how the pandemic may have impacted population trends in countries with various Gross Domestic Products (GDPs). The population data is from a Kaggle dataset and the GDP data is from the International Monetary Fund. Our team is composed of three Berkeley students, Angela Ingram, Emily McPherson, and Arsh Hothi, who are excited to share population analysis. We deep dive into birth and death rates, fertility and infant mortality rates, and rural versus urban populations. We chose to focus on changes and trends pre-COVID moving into the period from 2020-2021 at the height of COVID and prior to the widespread release of vaccines. The visualizations on this site were made with D3 and Tableau. Click here for a quick video overview of the site.
